Insulated Pipe or Flat Surface Heat Loss or Heat Gain

1. This computer program calculates the heat loss or heat gain from insulated surfaces. The
program has 29 different insulations to chose from and it has numerous protective jackets
that can be used in the heat transfer analysis. The input of the ambient air temperature and
air velocity influences the heat transfer calculations. To calculate the heat loss or heat gain this program does not use assumed R values which calculates the approximate heat transfer. Instead this program uses a thermal conductivity curve for each insulation and goes through an accurate iterative calculation procedure to zero in on the insulation thermal conductivity and
R value. This program will provide the surface temperature of the insulated system and the heat loss (or heat gain) in Btu/hrft2, in Btu/hr –linear ft pipe, or in Btu/hr for a given length of pipe, or Btu/hr for a given square feet of surface.
